Mental Wellness with Soulink

Situation

Navigating mental health care is often fragmented and overwhelming. This global issue affects nearly 1 billion people, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), with about 20% of American adults experiencing mental illness yearly, and significant mental health challenges also present in India. Individuals struggle to find comprehensive resources in one place.

Task

To address this issue, I embarked on creating Soulink, an all-in-one mental wellness app that promotes personal growth, facilitates access to wellness activities, builds a supportive community, and ensures personalization and engagement.

Action

Understanding What People Want-

  • I wanted to know what people were looking for in a mental wellness app. I checked out what other popular apps were doing to see what features people liked.

  • Then, I talked to all sorts of people – shy folks, busy professionals, young adults, and even caregivers to hear about their needs and the challenges they faced.

  • Based on the interviews, I created personas that represented the typical people who would use Soulink.

  • Using these personas, I made "empathy maps" that explored what users thought, felt, did, and said about mental wellness. This helped me understand their experiences and why they did what they did.

Coming Up With Solutions-

  • Once I had a good understanding of the problem, it was brainstorming time! I got my team together and we threw out all sorts of ideas for making mental health support easier to get and more engaging to use.

Bringing Ideas to Life-

  • I started sketching out some rough ideas for the app, and then fleshed them out into more detailed wireframes.

  • Also I created a design system that included a consistent color scheme, easy-to-read fonts, reusable components for the app's features, and a logo that symbolized mental well-being.

Making Sure It Worked Well-

  • After building detailed wireframes with over 55 screens with Figma tool, I had people try out the app and see how easy it was to use.

  • I used Maze tool that showed where people tapped and swiped on the screen. This feedback helped me fine-tune the design to make it even better for everyone.

Lessons Learned (and Loved!)-

  • This project taught me a lot about the importance of understanding people's needs when designing something.

  • The best parts, though, were figuring out what people wanted through interviews and then watching my ideas come to life on the screen. It was a great way to use my creativity and design skills!

Result

Soulink aims to become an all-in-one platform for mental wellness, empowering individuals to manage their mental health and connect with supportive resources. This user-friendly, comprehensive approach has the potential to significantly improve mental health support on a global scale.
