Spendr - Track. Split. Simplify
Situation
Managing personal finances can be challenging, especially when it involves tracking expenses, setting budgets, and splitting bills among friends/family. It's easy to get confused and end up in arguments! That's why I knew people needed a better way to manage their money together.
Task
My goal was to create a super user-friendly app that tackles all these problems at once. It would let you track your spending, set goals for saving, and split bills with your buddies – all in one cohesive platform! This way, managing your money with friends would be a breeze.
Action
Research-
I started by conducting user interviews and surveys to understand the common pain points in managing expenses and splitting bills. Users expressed the need for a simple way to track spending, divide costs fairly, and set financial goals.
Planning-
Detailed expense tracking with analytics - Log every expense and view pending bills and see amounts used, remaining, and upcoming due dates.
Seamless bill splitting among friends - Categorize expenses, select friends, and track owed/owing amounts. Choose equal shares or customize with percentages.
Goal setting and budget management - Set and manage budgets for each category. Add budgeted amounts and due dates effortlessly.
Consistent user experience - A search bar to find contacts quickly. View chats, payments, and specifics, send messages or make payments directly. Print receipts for completed payments.
Design System-
The layout has 4-column grid with 16px margins and 20px gutters creates a clean and organized interface.
The color palette I opted for a professional yet approachable feel by using deep blues and grays for core elements, accented with soft pastels for highlights. This combination promotes a sense of trust and keeps the interface visually engaging.
I used Poppins font for its clean, modern feel, suitable for a fintech application.
Wireframes and Prototyping-
Using Figma, I created wireframes to visualize the app's layout and user flow. This helped me map out the essential features and interactions. I then developed interactive prototypes to test with users, ensuring that the design met their needs and expectations.
Result
The potential impact that Spendr is anticipated to simplify financial management for users and foster better collaboration among friends when splitting bills. By reducing cognitive load and interaction costs, the app is designed to make managing money more efficient and less stressful, thereby fulfilling its primary goals.
